Research Interests - Migration and migrant communities in Asia and Australia

Sachiko teaches Japanese at advanced and specialist levels. Sachiko was awarded a PhD in Japanese History by UWA in 2001. Her research interests include social and economic history of Japanese women and Japanese immigrants in Australia. Her PhD thesis was titled "Coalmining Women In Japan: Cultural Identity, Welfare And
Economic Conditions On The Chikuho Coalfield". Current ProjectsSachiko is currently working on first, a project which will examine the Japanese permanent residents in Western Australia and second, an editorial work of a book project on a history of Western Australia and Japan relations to be published in May 2009.
